Meet your Liberal Candidate

Duane Filson is a grain and cattle producer from Woodrow. Having served five years as councillor, Duane became Reeve of the Wood River RM in 2006; he is a former APAS delegate for the RM, president of the Lafleche Curling Club, and vice-chair of the South-West Transportation Planning Council. He co-chaired the Wood River Centennial Celebration in 2005, and until its closing in 2005, Duane was secretary of the Unified Board of the Woodrow United Church.

Long active in sports, this former mathematics and English teacher hopes to continue his community service as Member of Parliament for Cypress Hills - Grasslands, and will provide residents of the Southwest with honest, accountable representation in Ottawa.

Duane believes that Canada can adopt policies that will ensure economic prosperity, not only for the generations of today, but for those in the future. Only a Liberal government will forge a strategy that will both sustain the environment and encourage economic growth. This country has the resources to help those who need it, and at the same time provide the opportunities for entrepreneurs to excel. Liberals believe in giving all Canadians that chance, not just an empowered few.

In Cypress Hills - Grasslands that means working with provincial and municipal governments to provide long term infrastructure; supporting agriculture, from small fruit and vegetable farms to the largest grain and livestock production ventures. It means developing our manufacturing and oil and gas industries, yet ensuring that they are operating in an environmentally sustainable way. It means allowing farmers to maintain their present market power, or enhance it, and it means stabilizing farm income and dealing with disasters like drought and gopher problems.

Duane holds a B.A. (English) from the University of Saskatchewan and a Professional A teaching certificate. Duane is capably supported by his wife of 33 years, Penny, and his four grown children, Caleb (Tara), Jesse (Clint Shkuratoff), Joseph and Wesley.
